Rules and Exceptions

The National Dodgeball Festival will follow the rules as stated in the World Dodgeball Federation handbook with the following exceptions and information.


  1. Games will be officiated by one referee.  Our referees are trained in the competitive leagues and will be visiting from London, Ottawa, Toronto, North Bay and Mississauga, Sarnia, Winnipeg and beyond. Playoff medal games will have two officials where needed and able.
  2. The most current rule book is posted on the bottom of this page.|


The following changes have been made to our existing rule book for the 2020 National Dodgeball festival:


PLEASE NOTE WHISTLES AND BUZZERS KILL ALL THROWS AND LIVE BALLS. THERE ARE NO LIVE BALLS AFTER A WHISTLE OR BUZZER. THIS COVERS ANY SECTION OF THE RULES PERTAINING TO LIVE BALLS AND THROWS OFF BEFORE A WHISTLE OR BUZZER.


The Game – Page 4

  1. A match will consist of two ten minute halves. There are no time outs. Half time is 2-3 minutes. PLEASE NOTE THERE MUST BE 30 OR MORE SECONDS ON THE CLOCK WHEN THE PREVIOUS GAME ENDS IN ORDER TO START A NEW GAME EXCEPT FOR PLAYOFFS. PLAYOFFS ONLY– FIRST HALF 30 SECOND RULE IN EFFECT. SECOND HALF 30 SECOND RULE IS ELIMINATED AND ONLY 1 SECOND OF TIME IS NEEDED ON CLOCK TO START A NEW GAME IF NEEDED TO TIE OR DETERMINE A WINNER.
  2. ONE ON ONE – any game that proceeds to a 1 on 1 will automatically switch to NO BLOCKING. All other rules remain in effect. There is no longer a one bounce rule.
  3. Section 10 – eliminated – page 5

  5. All round robin games ending in a tie will stand as tied.
  6. All playoff games will follow section 12
  7. Section 15 – page 5 – eliminated
  8. Sections 18-19 – page 6 – eliminated
  9. Sections 23/23/24 – eliminated and replaced – The Court
  10. The court will measure 30x60 inside the cage. There will be a center line. YOU MAY REACH OVER THE CENTER LINE. Extra players will stand outside the cage in between games. A line shall mark where players stand when knocked out. Out players will stand against cage on opposite side of the official in order of out.
  11. Attack lines – these will be marked. During opening rush a ball must travel back over the attack line before it can be thrown at the opposing team.

  13. Sections 55-57 - Ball Retrieving – eliminated
  14. Gloves/Chalk/Sticky Tape - players may not wear gloves, sticky tape or any aid to catch a ball. Chalk is banned from the festival with the exception of the liquid chalk. Players may not use clothing to purposely trap a ball

The Match

  1. Matches will be 20 minutes of game play divided into two 10 minute halves with a three minute half time.
  2. Matches ending in a tie during round robin matches will remain a tie.
  3. Sudden Death
  4. There will be no come backs during sudden death. Once you are knocked out you are out for the remainder of the game once sudden death starts.
  5. Referees will start a new game in the first half if the previous game ends with 30 seconds or more left on the clock
  6. Referees will start a new game in the second half if the previous game ends with 30 seconds or more left on the clock. See playoff adjustment for this rule.
  7. If the buzzer sounds to end the match in the second half and the game is score spread is 2 points or more there will be no sudden death overtime played.

Note - once one team is eliminated in the three way tie, the 2 way tie breaking rules take effect.

Protests

If you wish to launch a protest, the fee is $20.  Your protest will be reviewed by the jury of appeal.  If you win your protest, the money is returned.   If you lose your protest, their is no refund.  The protest is launched electronically below and the monies are paid in cash.  Be sure to describe your protest accurately.


In the event of a transfer error by Pro Sports Management, the original google document shall be deemed correct.
